Solar Detach & Reset — Northern Utah
A New Roof Under Your Solar Panels
Your shingles are aging out under a 25-year array. We coordinate the whole sequence — licensed solar detach, GAF Master Elite roof replacement, and professional reset — on one schedule, with one written estimate. You make one call, not three.

Why Solar Homes Hit This Sooner Than They Expect
Utah went solar fast — and most of those arrays were bolted onto roofs that already had a decade or more on them. When the shingles are done, the panels have to move. Here's the situation, honestly.
Panels outlive shingles
Arrays last 25+ years. Most were installed on roofs that were already 10–15 years old. That math catches up.
The array hides the worst roof
The shingles under the panels are the ones nobody has inspected since install day — and the mounts penetrate them.
Two trades, one job
Electrical detach is licensed solar work. Tear-off is licensed roofing work. Coordinating them is the hard part — that's what we do.
Licensed Solar Partners in Every County We Serve
Disconnecting and re-commissioning a grid-tied system is licensed solar work — not something a roofing crew should touch. We coordinate with solar professionals we trust to show up when the schedule says.
Davis, Weber & Salt Lake Counties
R&R Solar
Jared Slade and the R&R Solar team handle detach and reset for our Wasatch Front projects — from Bountiful and Layton through Ogden and into Salt Lake County.

Secon Sun Solar
Darryl Rasmussen and Secon Sun Solar cover our northern territory — Logan and every Cache Valley city, plus Box Elder County — working in step with our Logan crews.
Prefer your original solar installer? No problem — we'll coordinate with them instead. (If they're no longer in business, you're in the exact situation our partners handle every week.)
How Detach & Reset Works
About a week end to end. The roofing itself is still one to two days — the panels add scheduling on either side, not construction time.
01
Free Inspection & One Estimate
We inspect the roof, assess the array and racking, and coordinate the solar quote — so you get one written estimate for the whole project.
02
Licensed Solar Detach
Our solar partner disconnects and removes the panels and racking a day or two before tear-off. Your system's warranty stays intact.
03
Tear-Off & New Roof
We tear off to the deck, photograph and repair the decking, and install the new GAF roof system — one to two days, same as any roof we build.
04
Reset & Re-Commission
The solar crew remounts the racking with new flashing at every penetration, resets the panels, and re-commissions the system.
Both Warranties Stay Intact
Done right, a detach-and-reset reroof leaves you better covered than before: a new GAF roof from a Master Elite contractor — eligible for GAF's strongest warranty tiers plus our lifetime workmanship warranty — and a solar system whose manufacturer warranty survives because licensed professionals moved it. Every mount penetration gets new flashing on the way back on.

Solar Detach & Reset Questions We Hear Every Day
Can't you just roof around the panels?
No — and be wary of anyone who offers to. The shingles under the array have to come off with the rest of the roof. Leaving them means the oldest part of your roof sits under thousands of dollars of equipment where nobody can see it fail. Every mount penetration also gets new flashing during a proper reset, which is one of the best things that ever happens to a solar roof.
Who actually handles the panels?
Licensed solar professionals, not our roofing crew. We coordinate with partners we trust to show up on schedule: Jared Slade at R&R Solar covers Davis, Weber, and Salt Lake counties, and Darryl Rasmussen at Secon Sun Solar covers Cache Valley and Box Elder County. You're welcome to use your original solar installer instead — if they're still in business. Many aren't, and that's exactly the gap our partners fill.
What does detach and reset cost?
The solar portion is priced by the solar contractor and scales with panel count, racking type, and system age. It appears as its own line item in one coordinated written estimate alongside the roofing — no mystery math, no separate bids to reconcile.
Will my solar warranty survive the process?
Yes — when the detach and reset is performed by a licensed solar professional, which is the entire point of doing this as a coordinated job. The new roof carries our lifetime workmanship warranty and qualifies for GAF's strongest warranty tiers, and the reset arrays get new flashing at every mount.
How long does the whole project take?
About a week end to end: detach a day or two before, one to two days of roofing, reset a day or two after. The roofing timeline is the same as any home — the panels add scheduling on either side, not construction time in the middle.
I'm planning to ADD solar soon. Should the roof come first?
If your roof has less than 10–15 years of life left, yes — replace it before the array goes up. Panels last 25+ years, and pulling a young array off a failing roof is the most expensive order of operations there is. Tell us solar is coming and we'll build the roof ready for it and coordinate with your installer before they mount anything.
